Transmeta Corporation (NASDAQ: TMTA) was a US-based corporation that licensed low power semiconductor intellectual property. Transmeta originally produced very long instruction word code morphing (microcoded) microprocessors, with a focus on reducing power consumption in electronic devices. It was founded in 1995 by Bob Cmelik, Dave Ditzel [3], Colin Hunter, Ed Kelly, Doug Laird, Malcolm Wing, and Greg Zyner. In January 2009, Transmeta was acquired by Novafora, which ceased operations in August 2009. Transmeta has produced two x86-compatible CPU architectures: Crusoe and Efficeon. These CPUs have appeared in subnotebooks, blade servers, tablet PCs, a personal cluster computer, and a silent desktop, where low power consumption and heat dissipation are of primary importance. Revenue for the third quarter of 2007 was $44 million, which included $43 million of services revenue and $1 million of license revenue for royalty payments. 意圖很明顯了...有很大可能想自己搞 X86 CPU 反正 intel 都斷了授權, 繼續跟他磨也沒意思, 直接自己幹 CPU 還比較快 再不然就是 VLIW 三國鼎立時代要來了嗎?

只是雇用員工, 應該談不上技術授權, 加上Transmeta 解散, intel 應該是要跟該智財擁有者談... 除非智財擁有者是這些員工... 另外, 不知道智財法是怎麼規定的... 假設一個IP 是由 A 員工設計, 然後 A 員工跳槽到 Z 公司, 完整的把技術帶過去, 那這樣不知由無違反智財法 我知道 M$ 之前被水果告說盜用他們的圖形介面, 是藉由提出雇用前員工的方式擺脫... 如果這例子可以符合, 那 NV 基本上很有可能再 3-5 年內生出一顆 x86 CPU, 效能如何是其次(甚至說不重要? 反正 bundle CUDA...)

以使用者傾向netbook或輕省電腦 及 雲端運算與服務 的趨勢來看. 未來client端的CPU效能
真的可能不需要多強(即使沒有CUDA). 慢個兩三代, 效能打三折 其實都還有可用之處. 若萬一還給它整合好CUDA了, 吼吼.... 至於智財權的問題, 我不是律師, 但知道公司的規章也有相當效力, 如果你當初簽訂的合約就 已經把自己賣了, 簽字內容若有一小行寫明 所有開發成果之智產權皆歸公司所有....etc 那事後也沒啥機會告贏公司. |

我不知道nVIDIA要怎麼搞x86 CPU x86 CPU就算從零開始也不可能擺脫intel 幸運的是nVIDIA是美商 可以跟AMD一樣搞授權 專利互享 問題是人家願意嗎？ 不願意然後鬧上法院可能又要過好幾年 假如打贏官司 x86 CPU也設計完成 那誰要幫它代工？ 相對IA簡單的VIA nano都找日本富士通代工 台灣的晶圓雙雄有那個能力嗎？ (規模市佔又不一樣大怎麼叫雙雄) 所以會找特許？ 小弟才疏學淺 想到這就想不太下去  也可能想的不對 結論：衝刺吧 nVIDIA |

呵，所以我的亂猜裡面有說「軟體及時轉譯指令」，當年Transmeta的做法就是這樣，硬體架構完全跟x86沒關係，全用軟體方式轉譯指令，就如同是寫一個x86模擬器一樣，我記得intel從未拿x86授權的事情來告Transmeta，可見軟體轉譯應該是不需授權的，不然intel那麼愛告人早告翻它了（反而Transmeta告過intel侵犯它一些專利，後來intel和解付了一筆錢）。 以現在Fermi三頭六臂什麼執行資源都具備的情況下，為它實作一個x86軟體轉譯器我覺得是可行的，當然執行效率好不好，以及在公司戰略上的效應會如何，就是另一回事囉。 最後再強調一次，這招我亂猜的，NV目前沒有說要這樣做。 |

全美達當初雖然開發按序超長指令字集（VLIW)，執行x86指令時以純基於軟體的指令翻譯器動態地依次編譯或模擬x86指令藉以兼容於x86架構之處理器..但是事實上.其產品上市後.卻面臨到以下幾種情況,1.簡易超長指令字核心架構並無法與加強計算的應用程式作對比，2.而圖像或其他I/O的應用受低頻寬的南橋界面所限，甚至讓一些標準測試作業也運行失敗,也讓其聲稱可完全兼容於x86的說法受到市場質疑..最後黯然收場..
所以完全用軟體編譯執行...這方法事實上是很難行得通的.. 1.處理器的執行效能低落2.晶片設計的複雜程度反而更高3.對x86指令集架構下應用軟體的兼容性無法有效整合,所以..事實上這樣的開發是毫無意義的 |

會不會又是喊喊而已  AMD：你幹嘛？ nVIDIA：嚇嚇他啊  -- 記得兩年還是三年前G80未上市的時候也謠傳nVIDIA要搞自己的CPU 到現在連屁都沒看到  不過部分人看到GPU + Nivo以後說這就像是CPU + Chipset的雛形了 |

NV 是有自己的 CPU 啊, 只是是 ARM... 不是 x86... NV 肖想 x86 這一塊已經很久了... 很可惜不是吞下 VIA...
