NASA and industry studies suggest that a large commercial BWB aircraft could be developed.

Because of its efficient configuration, the BWB would consume over 20 percent less fuel than a comparable conventional aircraft flying at high subsonic cruise speeds over a 7,000 nautical-mile range. 因為這是高效率與的結構,這樣的翼胴合體可以至少降低20%的油耗,與傳統飛機在近音速巡航速度下多飛七千海里的距離. At the NASA Langley Research Center in Hampton, Virginia, researchers tested five wind tunnel models of three versions of the BWB to evaluate the concept's aerodynamic, noise, stability and control, and spin and tumble characteristics.
