mh... as I know, the dual 512K Tualatin is the fastest/stable dual CPU system at the same clock speed... even the AMD MP can't beat them... and the price? the only "ACCEPTABLE" Dual AMD MP board is the Tyan Thunder7... that cost about 700 dollars in the US... something difficult to afford....

BTW, the TUALATIN core is different than the COPPERMINE Core... so, the Tualatin is not a 0.13 Coppermine... even that they are very similars, but don't get confuse....

I am not saying that the MP is bad, but here near where I live, there is a computer store that have a Dual Tualatin System with a Supermicro board(about 250 dollars)... and the speed/stability is great..

The problem of MP is the temperature, is almost impossible to maintain the cpu temperature under 35... and a Tualatin can keep about 34 when you OC it from 1.13 to 1.42 with those Retail cooler...

不可否認的Tualatin確實擁有較為優良的製程與溫控及大家所熟悉的穩定性
但Intel處理器的高價格卻也是眾所皆知的
Tualatin的核心的確略有不同於Coppermine與Coppermine-T
而相同時脈下, Tualatin與Palomino應該是旗鼓相當的處理器
但弟強調的是處理器之外的架構問題
此兩者採用不同的雙處理器架構設計
但AMD的架構在資料頻寬與線性效能增進上的表現顯然優於Intel

在穩定性方面:
已有網友使用S2462+Dual Thunderbird 1G O.C 1.4G(133*10.5)+ATP 1GB Registered ECC DDRRAM的設備
先執行讓CPU使用率滿載的程式(CPU Stability)
然後再執行Spuer PI 32M
整組系統整整RUN了127小時而未發生當機現象!
您說它不穩定嗎?

在價格方面:
JeiJei兄提到您使用了SuperMicro約250美元的主機板
雖然您未提及其型號(個人猜測應為P3TDDE....)
但相信這個價位的主機板相對於Tyan S2462而言應較為低階吧?
若要能與Tyan S2462規格相比的SuperMicro的板子
應該算是SuperMicro P3TDL3(約420美金, 但規格稍差於Tyan S2462)
或是SuperMicro P3TDE6(約500美金, 但規格稍優於Tyan S2462)
很明顯的這兩塊板子都比Tyan S2462來得貴(若不含Power來計算)
而且Tualatin 1.26G 512K約在430美元之譜
而Athlon MP 1.2G卻只要170美元(Athlon 1.4G只要110美元)
怎麼算都是AMD系統便宜......

因此就入門(或初階)級的伺服器市場而言
價格/功能比應屬AMD為優
而Dual Tualatin也會較遜於Dual Palomino

剛剛在 overclocker 看到有人一值質疑 Athlon MP Dual比不過 Tualatin Dual
甚至懷疑 Adol 兄的 33.333% "推測", 其實 Adol 的推測試蠻合邏輯的, 因此回了以下的留言, 也可供大家選擇 server 作為參考.

其實就算 Tualatin 512K Dual 真的比 Athlon MP Dual performance 好,
也不用在意 (我也不相信會比 MP 好), 買來玩玩好, 用來架 server, 該 CPU 可能在極短的時間內就會 phase out, Pentium III 應該也快被 P4 取代, 買的主機當然就沒得升級CPU了.

Athlon 1.2GHz Dual 除了 memory bandwidth 之外很多項目都與 Xeon 1.7GHz Dual不相上下. 有些甚至是狂電.

我只舉一般對 server 要求較高的 database server performance 結果, 也是我比較關心的項目, Athlon 1.2GHz Dual 狂電 Xeon 1.7GHz Dual
為何會出令人驚異的結果? 就在設計的架構, Athlon MP的data transfer設計得比 Xeon好. 而何況價錢 Athlon MP 跟 Xeon 根本沒得比, 便宜一大截, 除此之外,Athlon MP 只需 DDRRAM, Xeon 還須RDRAM, 價錢又差了兩倍.

再提到 Tualatin, 不管它是 256K 或 512K L2, 拿來架 Server
它只是過渡的產品罷了, 如果它的效能真的比 Athlon MP 好
(也就是比 Xeon好或不相上下) Intel 會那麼笨的賣那麼便宜(比 Xeon),
以它來當主力產品打自家的Xeon嗎?

讓一直被K7搞得灰頭土臉的Intel有令人眼睛為之一亮的表現
只卻也背負了兩個導致提早出局的因素....
一是Intel力推P4架構, 並定位Foster為雙處理器的基準
二是Intel那效率奇差的雙處理器架構....

坦白說
若是Tualatin能有像760MP般的SMP架構作為基礎
弟想自己也會選擇Tualatin來作為伺服器的.....

我支持MP
但Tualatin也是很好
卻被intel糟蹋..
要是拿Tualatin當P4
我會考慮購買....
真遺憾...
