新線影業的王牌製片Michael De Luca([不羈夜].[桃色風雲-搖擺狗].[極光追殺令])跟夢工場的組合,會產生甚麼樣的火花?!
拭目以待.! ------------------------------------------------ De Luca Says Yes to DreamWorks Post, No Thanks to New Line Producing Deal The studio will look to the former NL production president to attract talent and beef up release schedule to a dozen or more films per year. DreamWorks confirmed Monday that former New Line Cinema production president Michael De Luca would be joining the company as head of production. He will report to motion picture department heads Walter Parkes and Laurie MacDonald. After an eight-year run highlighted by such hits as Austin Powers, Rush Hour and Blade, De Luca was fired by New Line in January following a string of box-ffice duds. While his exit package included a rich three-year production deal, De Luca says he prefers the role of studio executive. ''I have a lot of respect for producers but I don't feel my talents and skills lie in producing. I'd feel like I was impersonating a producer,'' De Luca told Inside. ''I'd rather assemble a staff and manage a number of projects and work with a lot of filmmakers at once.'' DreamWorks is counting on De Luca's relationships with A-list talent and filmmakers to help the company expand its release schedule from 6 to 10 films per year to as many as 12. De Luca, who signed a three-year deal, will also take over the day-to-day operations of the production department, including staffing and overseeing the company's relationship with talent agencies, according to Parkes. ''This will allow Laurie and I to work on the movies with which we're more intimately involved and to concentrate on Steven (Spielberg)'s movies,'' Parkes said. In recent months, there have been persistent rumors that the husband-and-wife team eventually plan to step down to return to producing full time. The production head post was originally held by Robert Cooper -- now a principal in Landscape Entertainment -- until he was let go in 1999. DreamWorks partner Jeffrey Katzenberg then stepped into the role in a bizarre arrangement under which he supposedly reported to Parkes and MacDonald. ''Jeffrey has been slacking off because of his obsession with these animated projects,'' Parkes joked. ''For the last year it's been something that Laurie and I have had to be responsible for in addition to our other responsibilities.'' In addition to his casual attire and bad-boy image, De Luca is best known for sheperding commercially successful low- to medium-budgeted youth-oriented genre films such as the Austin Powers franchise and The Mask. While DreamWorks has had some success in that arena, including last summer's hit Road Trip, the studio has tended to focus more on mainstream fare and grown-up dramas. ''There's nothing wrong with expanding the sense of what a DreamWorks picture is,'' said Parkes. ''DreamWorks will also provide Mike a context to expand his own horizons.'' Asked what kind of films he expected to be making at DreamWorks, De Luca added, ''I promised them I would bring just the hits and no flops.'' |
