JBL is still considered one of the best speaker manufacturers in the market.

I think you'd better be more specify in your question. Are you looking for the speakers for multichannel HT or two-channel music system? and your budget? other equipment in your system, like amp and CD/DVD player.
the size and dimentions of your listening room....... all those are important factors in choosing the appropriate speakers.

I am not a big fan of JBL nor Bose, but I will "assume" JBL is a better choice because I do not like the sound from Bose. Personally, I think Bose sounds way tooooo harsh and unbalanced in mid/bass range.
Just my personal opinion.

As to the model.... Well~ I am in the US and I really have no idea in what's up in the Hong Kong market.

my suggestion for you is go to your local audio store to audit the speakers yourself. That's the best way to find out the sound you like. Trust your ears!!!

I definitely would go with JBL if I have to choose between JBL and Bose. Bose speakers are known to be over-priced, over-rated and over-hyped. The speakers do not excel in any aspect and due to the fact that Bose do a lot of advertisement, their speakers cost the consumers a fortune. I don't know about the prices in HK but I would assume that the prices there are much more reasonable than those of Taiwan. Other brands that you could consider are: Mission, Infinity, Psb, and Energy. JBL speakers are known to have a warmer and rounder sound and a deeper bass. If you do decide to invest on them, I guess it would be comforting to know that you probably don't have to buy a separate subwoofer. Even if you changed your mind and want to buy a subwoofer, JBL's PB12 is an excellent choice. I like to listen music very much...

Subwoofer is important IF you plan to use your system to watch DVD movies in the future, AND if you do not have the money to buy a decent pair of floorstanding speakers. Due to their size, bookshelf speakers ususually do not perform very well at lower frequencies(under 100Hz). If you can find a pair of JBL with 3 drivers(a tweeter, a midrange and a woofer), you probably do not need the subwoofer for now just for listening to music. Also, the kind of music you listen to matters. If you listen to basically classical music, JBL speakers would give you more laid back feeling while Psb or Energy speakers will reach out to you more( they are more defined at the highs). As for the prices, why don't you find out how much a pair of JBL N28 speakers cost and I will have a better idea to help you more???
