阿匹婆的用意是要讓 1982年版本的 E.T. 是普羅大眾都能擁有的, 而不是只屬於那些收藏家的. 所以他讓大家只要買 ET 雙碟版就可以同時擁有兩個版本
看來我們要謝謝阿匹婆了... 多謝了他, 讓大家都有機會擁有真正的經典, 也就是1982 版本的 E.T.

Spielberg Pushed For 'E.T.' DVD To Feature Two Versions Of Film Universal Pictures Only Wanted Newer Version

LOS ANGELES -- Steven Spielberg has made sure the new "E.T." DVD comes in two flavors -- original recipe and extra special effects.

The director suggested that the upcoming two-disc, $30 home-video release of "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" feature both the low-tech 1982 version of the boy-and-his-alien story and the 2002 update with computerized effects.

Originally, he said, Universal Pictures only wanted the $30 collection to feature the newer version, which he produced for the film's 20th anniversary. The updated film restored some deleted scenes and occasionally replaced the alien's puppet face with computer animation to make its emotions more evident.

The studio initially planned to release both versions only in a $70 boxed set DVD collection, which also includes the movie's soundtrack and a copy of the script, but Spielberg said he didn't want people who bought the less elaborate $30 version, which has fewer special features, to forget the first version of "E.T."

"My intention was never to replace the original film," Spielberg said in a statement released Monday. "When people buy 'E.T.' I want them to know they have the original movie, not just for collectors and aficionados, but for everybody who remembers it and wants to continue remembering it just that way."

Both the boxed set and the two-disc DVD are set for release Oct. 22 and will be available only for 10 weeks.

It has become common for studios to sell two different DVD packages for one film. Bare-bones packages of "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" and "Pearl Harbor" were released months in advance of more elaborate collections with added DVD features a background notes.

本來 Disk 2 是只有幕後花絮的, 現在 2002 和 1982 版本的都有 Widescreen anamorphic format, 而且好像都有dts

禮盒版至少是多了: re-mastered CD soundtrack, original screenplay & collectible senitype
