🚄 Project Overview: Jakarta–Bandung High-Speed Rail
• Joint Venture: The rail line was built and financed by a joint venture called KCIC (Kereta Cepat Indonesia China), involving Indonesia’s state-owned PT Kereta Api Indonesia and China Railway International.
• Chinese Financing: China provided billions in loans to fund the project, making it a flagship example of its Belt and Road Initiative in Southeast Asia.
• Technology and Construction: China contributed the high-speed rail technology, engineering expertise, and much of the construction effort.

• The project has faced financial strain, with KCIC reporting losses and Indonesia’s sovereign wealth fund absorbing deficits.
• Indonesia is currently negotiating with China to restructure the debt, as the government resists using its state budget to cover the mounting costs.

• Indonesia is considering extending the line from Jakarta to Surabaya, and these plans are also being discussed with Chinese partners.
