There has been a price change with the upcoming 'deluxe edition' of Akira. The set, originally priced at $34.95, has been raised to $39.95. A limited number will also made available in a special tin (I'm assuming like the Anchor Bay tins).

Pioneer Entertainment's DVD release will include: a new video transfer made from new interpositive off the original negative, completely restored and digitally re-mastered through High-Definition digital mastering (1080i, 16:9, D5); THX-certified audio components re-mixed to Dolby Digital AC3 surround sound (5.1 channels, English only).

The Akira deluxe edition will also contain an exclusive second DVD of extras such as the "Making of Akira" documentary, a soundtrack featurette and much more. The standard edition will still retail for $24.95. Both are set for a 7/4 release from Pioneer.
