If there are any words that can scare movie buffs faster than "a moving tale about the triumph of the human spirit starring Melissa Gilbert", it's "made-for-television biographies".

Almost as a norm, these films tend to be substandard in nature and more concerned with tabloid sensationalism. Thankfully this one breaks away from some of these standard conventions, and the end product is rather entertaining to say the least.

Against all odds, the year 1977 saw the rise of one of the most unique, larger-than-life talents in rock history, Meat Loaf aka Marvin Lee Aday (Brown, Lost Souls). The road to that breakthrough year and the legendary release of his seminal theatrical rock album "Bat Out of Hell" wasn't easy. Nor were the trials that would follow.

With songs sung by the legend himself, the film in essence depicts the rise, decline, and comeback of a rock and roll legend.

Earl Brown, Deedee Pfeiffer, Zachary Throne
