Just like the theatrical cut (which won Academy Awards, in case you didn't know) this is an often stunning, expertly crafted mix: Dynamic range is incredible, with a wonderful depth and fidelity to the soundtrack that brings tears to the eyes. The dialogue, score and effects are perfectly balanced and their integration is seamless, with a wide and pleasing front soundstage, and subtle vocal effects spread throughout - but nothing gimmicky. The surrounds are almost constantly engaged, from nice and subtle ambient effects to the ass-kickin' battle scenes, which create a powerful, incredibly exciting 360-degree soundfield. Imaging is near-transparent, and front-to-back and all-around "pans" are totally cool. This mix also boasts some pretty serious LFE, so turn this sucker up and watch the pets fly off the couch! (Southern Californians, beware the "Cave Troll" sequence, as you may start an earthquake!) It may lack the all-out, almost constant aggression of previous demo discs like, say, Star Wars or The Fast and the Furious, but it is every bit as good.
