I think it is reasonable for Amazon.Fr to ask you to ship back the defective product first and then refund the shipping.

First of all, when the product is damaged during shipping, it is not even Amazon's fault. You should be glad that they are willing to refund the shipping charges. A lot of online stores in USA don't even refund shipping charges.

Second, when you want to return something you bought in Taiwan, do you think it is possible for the store to give you another merchandise first and then see 'if you have time to return' the damaged product?
No, right? A lot of stores in Taiwan don't even let you exchange a damaged merchandise, much less let you have the merchandise first and return the damaged merchandise later.

If you are the boss, do you think you would do what Amazon.fr does or what Amazon.com does?

Now you know why Amazon.com is still unable to make profit until now

Whatever Amazon.com do, they do it out of generosity, not out of normality. We should not think of it as the normal way to do business, nor should we abuse that generosity. If one day Amazon.com stops shipping to Taiwan, it is the DVD buyers like us who will suffer.

That is why a lot e-tailers no longer ships to Taiwan now. (DVDSOON.... etc)
