哥倫比亞號是因為隔熱層受損, 所以被整個燒穿
彈道飛彈的外殼都採用耐熱材質, 內部則採用慣導, GPS 等, 從沒有用紅外線導引的, 洲際彈道飛彈甚至採用U-238, 做為三級氫彈的第三級"燃料"
重點是, 紅外線尋標頭要如何克服隔熱層殘留的上千度的干擾找出航艦?
相反的, 反彈道飛彈則是常用紅外線尋標頭, 原因?
彈道飛彈衝下來產生的溫度是絕佳的導引,
減輕重量, 結構也較簡單
