Once Upon a Time in the West (1968) 狂沙十萬里
在拍完The Man with No Name三部曲後
美國製片對Sergio Leone的西部片(Spaghetti Western)感到興趣 願意花大錢請他拍片
Sergio Leone本來沒有想再拍西部片了
因為這個機會 讓Sergio Leone開始了另一個三部曲
- Once Upon a Time in the West 狂沙十萬里 (1968)
- A Fistful of Dynamite (1971) 革命往事(大陸譯名; 台灣的?
) - Once Upon a Time in America 四海兄弟 (1984)
三個對美國有重大影響的時期
Sergio Leone原本有找Clint Eastwood(訪問中說的 見A Few Dollars More DVD)拍
(其實此片中Harmonica吹口琴的也是像Clint Eastwood之前的角色 -- The Man With No Name)
Clint Eastwood婉拒 覺得他應該回到好萊塢發展
不過 Sergio Leone終於請到Henry Fonda來演(在A Few Dollars More時就試過但失敗)
Henry Fonda本來是拒絕的 因為連劇本都沒有完整 加上他根本沒看過Sergio Leone的片子
可是他的朋友Eli Wallach(在The Good, the Bad and the Ugly中演Tuco "The Ugly")鼓勵他接受 不用管劇本
另Henry Fonda意外的是(其實所有看過這部的人當時的反應也是如此)
竟然要讓他演壞人
這就是Sergio Leone當時與其他導演不同的地方
這裡我不想寫情節 因為不知道情節來看會比較好
我在看Sergio Leone的片子時並不太清楚故事的情節 讓我可以更加投入
只要有心理準備
這不是部很動作片
這部片子不短 (DVD NTSC 165min ; PAL 159min) 要有點耐心就好
其實在當時美國的賣座不好 且嫌太長了而剪了25min
我猜就是因為他們以為這是個動作片
在歐洲及日本反應就比較好
尤其是法國
上演了48個月 並且引發服裝流行
這裡還是談談DVD
DVD版本選擇很簡單 只要選Paramount派拉蒙的CE版本就好 不用管區域
只有R1 CE多了原來的English mono-track R2 UK多了個漂亮的小冊子
此外 R2 Italian (remastered) CVC是最長的版本
DVD Beaver有比較Paramount與R2 Italian的版本 Paramount的影像漂亮多了

這部DVD畫質讓我非常驚訝
(雖說以2.35:1 16x9enhance來說 PAL畫素是NTSC的1.2倍)
比起前兩部要好(對我來說 A Few Dollars More的畫質比 The Good, the Bad and the Ugly好一點; 我還沒看過A Fistful Dollars)
這膚色非常地自然且豐富
與未修復的畫面比較
光設立這場景的花費就比A Fistful Dollars的預算要多
第一次有美國的場景 這是西部片中的經典場景 在很多片子都出現過
