Drew represents the 16th disabling injury of the first half for the Dodgers. To replace him on the roster, Los Angeles purchased the contract of Taiwanese outfielder Chin-Feng Chen, the all-time Triple-A Las Vegas home run leader. Chen was hitting .288 with 10 home runs and a team-high 47 RBIs for Las Vegas.
Chen once was a prized international prospect. But he lacked a defensive position and struck out too often, so he was passed by Repko from within and Werth from outside the organization. Chen missed two weeks last month with a bruised right wrist suffered, like Drew, when struck by a pitch.
"He'll get some at-bats," Tracy said of Chen, who is 0-for-14 with six strikeouts in five previous callups and might be getting his final chance as a Dodger. "He gets an opportunity to see where he's at, and we get an opportunity to see where he's at."
Chen figures to play Tuesday and Thursday against Colorado left-handed starters Jeff Francis and Joe Kennedy.
To make room for Chen on the 40-man roster, catcher Paul Bako was moved to the 60-day emergency DL. Bako is recovering from knee reconstruction.
