it didn't come out immediately as a hit
bc of the unusual subject
but I really think of it as a 1-out-of-a-million excellent film
so originally written and craftily made, soul-touching and life-lifting.
the script, the cast(both leadings and extra), the music of Cat Stevens
everything is so perfectly together
I'd say it is a timeless master-piece
"Harold and Maude is unique work of art that is a subversive black comedy but is also ultimately a spiritual film with a surprising life affirming message."
a bigger pic:
Harold and Maude
(classic black comedy,
cult movie, the scripter of which died of AIDS in 1988)
it is a crazily weird movie
but touching
for me it's unforgettable since the 1st sight of it
Ruth Gorden gained an oscar at the age of 72 and was 75 acting 79-year-old Maude, and died of stroke at 89
Bud Cort was just like the character Harold
he was 'treated like garbage' by paramount bc he refused to do any publicity for this movie
to protest their cutting of it, and for each 2 years he'd receive $11 for H&M
I really hope one day there'll be a collector's version of it.
