Audio: How Does The Disc Sound?
Despite my reservations about the transfer, the audio is kick-ass all the way. MGM serves up both Dolby Digital Surround EX and DTS 5.1 ES Matrixed mixes, and they rocked my world. I expected nothing less from a Bond film, and Die Another Day delivers. Dynamic range is terrific, especially on the DTS track - it's expansive with full-bodied midrange, sharp highs and super-sweet low end. Surround use is incredibly aggressive, with a transparency to the imaging that is often stunning on both the Dolby Digital and DTS. The rears are almost constantly engaged, with plenty of nifty discrete effects, score extension and even some nice atmospheric vocal effects. The sense of immersion across the entire 360-degree soundfield is first-rate, with the DTS track getting a slight nod. This is one highly enveloping, exciting sonic experience. Let's give Mr. Bond the golden gun for this one.
