燒錄完畢後，才是保存的開始。美國官方
NIST (National Institute of Standards and Technology) 下的 Information Technology Laboratory，其 Information Access Division 部門的「Digital Data Preservation Program」計畫，有一份於光碟保存有關的資料：

因為儲存容量越高，對保存與使用的要求越高，而除了 CIA 外，大概沒有消費者喜歡燒錄的東西自動消失。因此，廠商也針對這些進行一些措施來增加光儲存媒體對於環境的抵抗力，可參考下文：
Hard Coat Protection for Recordable Discs (6/2005)。TDK 的網站也有些資訊
Super Hard Coat DVD。
另外，DVD-RAM 每次都會拿來講的 Defect Management，這篇文章也有些介紹。

不過，要注意的一點應該是，因為 RAM 屬於可覆寫媒體，所以在寫的時候，有這種功能蠻有用的(總不會希望資料被寫到已經壞掉的區域)。但寫完之後進行保存時，並「不會再有」神秘的力量繼續進行這個功能。保存中間，資料壞了若無法更正，那就只好壞了。
而 Plextor 對於 DVD+RW (MRW) 使用具有 Defect Management 的 Mount Rainier 技術之介紹：

最後，前幾天正好看到 CDFreaks 的一文，不過對此認知很少，所以不知道他講的是否有道理就是。

以上找到的資料提供各位大大參考。不才感覺重要資料還是「重複備份 + 定期檢查」，不然還是有風險就是了。
